It does not take much to know when you have scorched your iron, as the burned fabric smell is hideous. But, luckily, scorched irons can be cleaned very easily.
The first thing you have to do, when you burn the bottom of your iron, is to unplug it. In a case you cannot remove the scorched fabric from the bottom of the iron in one piece, you should utilize a pair of tweezers or wooden chopsticks, in order to lift small bits of melted material from the sole plate after the iron has cooled completely.
But, if you do not remove all of the burned fabric from the iron, the iron will not work well. Firstly, you need to remove all of the material, and after that clean the scorched iron with the following technique.
The simplest way to clean a scorched iron is to soak a rag into hydrogen peroxide. Place it on an ironing board and iron over it until the stains lift.
